The different ways of understanding motherhood

A reflection on motherhood and the ways to understand and exercise it is the proposal of the series Huridas, which arrives tomorrow on Antena 3 after premiering on Atresplayer Premium a year ago. Produced by Atresmedia TV in collaboration with B uendía Estudios, the series is an adaptation of the Japanese fiction Mother (Madre), the Turkish remake of which had great international success.

The series deals with childhood abandonment and the search for one's own identity through the present and past experiences of its two protagonists, Manuela and Yolanda, whose lives will take a new and unknown direction after the former meets Alba, the daughter of the second, and that the girl suddenly disappears without leaving a trace.

Adriana Ugarte plays Manuela, a 28-year-old young woman who lives alone in a cabin from where she studies the Andalusian wetlands and the birds that live there. A few kilometers away lives Alba (Cosette Silguero), a six-year-old girl whose mother, Yolanda (María León), works as a dancer in an American bar at night and sleeps during the day.

"The series breaks myths about what maternity should be like to be recognized as such. There are as many different ways of exercising motherhood as there are women in the world", explained Adriana Ugarte about this series, which, in her opinion, moves away "from Manichaeism and dogmas". Regarding her character, he said that "Manuela is not a light that appears to bring Alba out of the shadows and darkness, since she does not promise a great future for the girl either. It is quite dubious, it is a character that we have not yet seen clearly".

Manuela perceives the girl's loneliness, and her concern grows when she discovers some of the problems she brings. "There is something in Alba's character that overcomes her and that produces in her a kind of rebirth of the tenderness she lost when she was very young. She is driven by the desire to help her, but there is also something about not being able to live without her, not wanting to get rid of her," he adds.

The other type of motherhood that is reflected in the series is that represented by Yolanda, played by María León. Although on paper she may seem like a bad mother, the actress defends her, because she is "a wrong person, not a bad person". "I want to think that people will understand Yolanda and that, in addition, they will learn from her and admire her, because it is difficult to be brave, to face yourself and decide to give yourself a chance", continues the actress, who she is proud to have managed to create a flesh and blood Yolanda. "People don't make mistakes willingly, they make mistakes because they have shortcomings or because they don't have the tools."
