Spectacular racing car in the early morning sky

In the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can contemplate the images of the spectacular balloon observed last morning, at 00:14:48 (local time), from the MeteoSantFost camera facing west, in Sant Fost de Campsentelles, in the Vallès Oriental

It has been observed from more than 16 collaborating stations of the SPMN-CSIC Network. Mainly, from Catalonia, Aragon and the Valencian Community, but they have also seen its radiance from other more distant points, such as Seville.

It has been the supercar

The reconstruction of the trajectory by Professor @Josep_Trigo (@ice_csic @IEEC_space) indicates a luminous phase starting at 85 km, deepening up to 22 km a.s.l. with probable meteorite fall.

According to Trigo: “The rock, probably chondritic, measuring just under a meter, reached the Earth at a speed close to 120,000 km/h.”

It reached Earth with a very vertical trajectory. The impressive explosion that occurred at 30 km a.s.l. stands out. which denotes the breakage of the rock.

As seen in the maximum flare, night became day for a second. It occurred just after fragmentation, when the pulverized rock was suddenly evaporated by the shock front.

A laborious team effort then began to model the distribution ellipse and try to recover the meteorite. A phenomenon of scientific relevance.
