"In the next legislature, young people will be the main protagonists of our government action", assured Pedro Sánchez yesterday in the presentation of the priorities of the electoral program with which he is presenting himself in the 23-J. The leader of the PSOE is again focusing thus in the youth the most showy initiatives, due to their gratuity, of the electoral promises of the training, as he already did in the campaign for the municipal and autonomous elections of May 28.
Among the proposals with the most impact for young people, Sánchez announced the "total free" of urban public transport for children and students up to 24 years of age. A measure, in line with the current public transport bonus valid until the end of the year, which the head of the Executive assured will help to decongest traffic in cities and mitigate the climate emergency.
Another of the measures that he singled out, as "very inspiring", is the free university studies and higher professional training for those students who pass the subjects "at first", conditioned the socialist candidate.
With regard to the impetus for the emancipation of young people, the electoral program of the PSOE incorporates as a novelty the creation, in coordination with the financial sector, of a subsidized savings account for the purchase of the first home. This initiative, he said, will allow young people to save up to 30,000 euros tax-free.
Another of the major axes of action embodied in the socialist program is to strengthen public services. And, in this chapter, Sánchez highlighted two important initiatives among his priorities for the next legislature. On the one hand, approve the expansion of the portfolio of services of the national health system to strengthen the public services of dentistry, physiotherapy, ophthalmology, psychiatry and clinical psychology.
On the other hand, the leader of the PSOE promised to "put an end to the endless waiting lists", establishing by law a maximum time of 30 days for the most important social benefits, such as unemployment or unemployment benefits dependence, and setting maximum waiting times in the national health system. It would be 30 days for complementary tests and 15 days for psychological assistance to young people, "regardless of the place of residence", specified Pedro Sánchez.
As a novelty to move forward in the ecological transition chapter, the president of the central government highlighted the electoral proposal to promote "a law that involves residents in municipalities when choosing the location of photovoltaic and wind farms". In this way, the rule would allow the neighbors to "participate directly in the co-ownership of up to 10% of the profits they generate".
Sánchez also placed as a priority guaranteeing access to water, "doubling the contribution of the desalination plants" and facilitating the use of this desalinated water at affordable prices for the primary sector. And he also announced a new law that prevents the privatization of water management in cities, to ensure that "water continues to be a public good".
