Sánchez defends before the founder of OpenAI an artificial intelligence with democratic values

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a meeting today with the CEO and co-founder of OpenAI, Sam Altman, before whom he advocated guaranteeing Artificial Intelligence with democratic values. The president also stressed that Spain is a pioneer in the supervision of this technology, one of the priority areas for the next Spanish presidency of the EU council.

The meeting, held in La Moncloa, was attended by the First Vice President, Nadia Calviño, the General Secretary for Economic Affairs, Manuel de la Rocha, and representatives of the company that created ChatGPT.

The meeting has served to address the development of Artificial Intelligence and its enormous potential to contribute to economic growth, the reduction of inequality and the solution of global problems. But it also entails challenges and risks for democracy and transparency. Sánchez has maintained that the Government is committed to protecting the rights of citizens and democratic values.

The president has also valued the approval of the Charter of Digital Rights and has defended the need for a global AI supervisory body and the importance of the upcoming approval of the European regulation on Artificial Intelligence, the negotiation of which will be a priority in the presidency EU Spanish. In addition, Spain has promoted a pilot test bench to agree on a good practice guide to improve the implementation of these activities.

The Government has approved the creation of the first Spanish Artificial Intelligence Supervision Agency (AESIA) in A Coruña and the European Union has chosen Seville to house the Center for Algorithmic Transparency. Along with this, the Executive has launched the ICO Next Tech Fund to

support leading startups and has dedicated 500 million euros from the Recovery Plan to accelerate the development of Artificial Intelligence in Spain.
