Ruben Wagensberg goes to Switzerland for the Tsunami case

The judicial pressure of the last few weeks on the causes linked to the process has not only had consequences on the amnesty law - already stuck in Congress -, but also means that there is a new expatriate: ERC deputy in the Parliament Ruben Wagensberg , one of those investigated for terrorism in the Democratic Tsunami case, moved temporarily to Switzerland a month ago, RAC1 reported yesterday, for "fear" of suffering "arbitrary detention" and to consult on his defense.

The decision of the deputy of ERC, which became a reality during the Christmas holidays, is closely linked to the investigation of the Tsunami case, opened four years ago and reactivated two months ago with the request of Judge Manuel García-Castellón to the Supreme Court so that the former president of the Generalitat and MEP Carles Puigdemont, ERC leader Marta Rovira and ten other people, among them Wagensberg, will be investigated for terrorism.

García-Castellón, in his research on the role played by the Democratic Tsunami platform in the riots that took place following the sentence of 1-O, in October 2019, places Wagensberg as one of those responsible for choosing blocking access to El Prat airport as a "very powerful action".

"I am allegedly being investigated, I am not even summoned to testify", Wagensberg pointed out yesterday, from Geneva, where he is in contact with human rights organizations and international lawyers to prepare his legal defense in front of a case "that is driving the forced marches after being completely asleep for four years", he told RAC1.

He assured that he sees himself "in a situation out of control", which has caused him mental health problems, for which he is on medical leave. "I'm panicking about going back to Catalonia," he admitted.

The choice of Geneva, where Marta Rovira already expatriated in 2018, is based on the fact that most human rights organizations are based there, an area that Wagensberg knows well. In fact, the profile of this 37-year-old Barcelona native is more of a left-wing social activist than a professional politician.

Trained in the Catalanist and secular classrooms of Sunion, Wagensberg was a musician and teacher before gaining notoriety for his work in favor of refugees, in particular as one of the promoters of the awareness campaign for the reception of refugees Casa nostra , casa vostra , which culminated in a mass march in Barcelona, in February 2017. That same year he made the move to institutional politics with ERC as an independent.

An independentist, but not an identitarian, a supporter of the path of dialogue and adding plural spaces, he has been a member of Parliament since January 2018 and for two years fourth secretary of the Bureau. Citizens asked yesterday to resign from this position if his absence is indefinite.
