Robles denies Feijóola a visit to the troops in Latvia

Alberto Núñez Feijóo is, once again, unable to visit the Spanish troops deployed in Latvia in support of the Baltic countries in the face of the Russian threat after the invasion of Ukraine.

The new request for the president of the PP to travel to Latvia has been met with the refusal of the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who rules out the visit and quotes Alberto Núñez Feijóo to be able to see the displaced Spanish military when they return to Spain.

On Thursday, the request of the PP was known, made by letter by the vice secretary of institutional policy of the PP, Esteban González Pons, which already revealed that Núñez Feijóo's cabinet had again requested a date for this trip a few weeks ago, without he had been given no response from the ministry.

A day later, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, responded to González Pons' letter, in a kind and even friendly tone, but denying the possibility of the trip.

In her letter, the minister, despite the kind language used, does not stop throwing insults at the PP, given that she appreciates the popular interest in the armed forces, which would have overcome "past times in which there were not enough investments". to fulfill their missions.

Robles shows strangeness that Feijóo only wants to go to the Latvian mission, which he assumes will extend to the others, and in fact there, without telling him that he denies him the trip, as he did in February, is where he actually refuses this possibility

"I propose, so that you can get to know in depth and without time limitations or the rush of a one-off visit conditioned by the dynamics of an operations area, that you have a broad meeting with this contingent when it returns to Spain". and adds: "I will be delighted to be able to accompany you in the meeting".

The response of the Minister of Defense fell like a cold war on the PP, who reminded Margarita Roblesque that the armed forces "do not belong to the Government but to all Spaniards". In addition, the popular people remember that in February Robles justified the refusal with the reason that there were some NATO maneuvers; now they see clearly that it was an excuse.

Esteban González Pons assured yesterday, after learning Robles' answer, that the Latvian Prime Minister continues to "invite" Alberto Núñez Feijóo to visit the Spanish troops deployed in his country and that NATO sees it as "pertinent", for which because they believe that the refusal responds only to a particular interest of the Executive of Pedro Sánchez.
