Michelin gives the details of the gala that Barcelona will host in November

On November 28, Barcelona will host the gala presentation of the new stars that Michelin will distribute in the 2024 edition. And, as the big night approaches, the Red Guide revealed yesterday at the Mercat de Sants some details about how the gastronomy festival will be which will be held from 7pm in the Forum Auditorium of the CCIB and which will be streamed from 6.30pm, one hour earlier than usual. Among these, the name of the person in charge of presenting the gala, which this year will be Andreu Buenafuente, and that of the chefs who will participate in the dinner that will close the night, which will be attended by more than 700 people.

Those in charge of captaining the team and organizing the gala menu will be three-star Barcelona stars Jordi Cruz (Àbac), Sergio and Javier Torres (Cocina Hermanos Torres) and Paolo Casagrande (Lasarte). They will be accompanied by Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas (Disfrutar); Raül Balam (Moments), David Andrés (Via Veneto), Albert Adrià (Enigma), Albert Raurich (Dos Palillos) and Hideki Matsuhisa (Koy Shunka). In total, there are 12 chefs who belong to 9 restaurants that together have 13 Michelin stars.

According to Mónica Rius, communication director of Michelin Spain and Portugal, these chefs have been selected on the basis of a series of criteria with the intention of representing in the most varied way possible the diversity of the gastronomy of the Catalan capital. There is no parity between them, Rius pointed out when asked during the press conference why no women were invited to participate.

Although he has not gone into details about what the gala menu will be like, Jordi Cruz has explained that it will be varied and diverse, "like Barcelona". He also assured that, more important than the food served, will be the distribution of stars of the night, since "Michelin is like MasterChef, good things and bad things happen".

The twins Sergio and Javier Torres, on the other hand, took advantage of the opportunity to speak to remark that, since the gala this year is being held in Barcelona, "hopefully the new cast of stars will be generous with the Catalan territory". At yesterday's presentation ceremony, in addition, the Red Guide presented a series of actions that will take place in the Catalan capital in the days before the gala, such as the debate that Michelin organizes annually, which will be held on November 13 at La Pedrera and will be themed around the world of wine. It will be presented by the communicator Amaya Cervera, recently honored with a National Award for Gastronomy, and sommeliers, winemakers and experts such as LuisGutiérrez, Quim Vila, Audrey Doré, Ferran Centelles, Cristina Díaz, Sara Pérez, Ricardo P. Palacios or Ignacio Villalgordo will participate. .

Haute cuisine will also be brought to the city's markets through show cooking by great chefs with the aim of bringing the great gastronomic festival that is Michelin to the public. The activity will be called El teu mercat te una estrella and will start on Friday at Mercat de Mercats. To participate in person, prior registration is required, although the show cookings will also be streamed.

In addition, from today Michelin will promote the Barcelona ADN Excellència action, which aims to make the gastronomy of the Catalan capital visible on an international scale. Through social networks, the public will be invited to make a chain with famous people who they believe are representative of Barcelona's DNA, and there will be a raffle with a double ticket to the Michelin gala 2024 as a prize.
