Jorge Rodríguez activates a summit of independent mayors while the PSPV chooses its future

Next day the 30th is the deadline for candidates to lead the PSPV to present their candidacies. That day it will be known who chooses to replace Ximo Puig as head of the General Secretariat of the Valencian Socialists and whether there is consensus or, on the contrary, internal battle and primaries. One day later, the former leader of the PSPV and former president of the Provincial Council of Valencia Jorge Rodríguez has summoned 90 mayors and councilors to the First meeting of elected municipal officials of the Valencian Community.

A summit in which Ens Uneix, the party that Rodríguez founded after leaving the PSPV, aspires to seek electoral synergies with the countless independent brands that exist throughout the Valencian territory with the clear objective of "articulating a political force" that can be competitive in Provincial Councils and, being very ambitious, in Les Corts Valencianes.

Apparently, these two processes seem independent but they intersect and not only in the calendar. If Rodríguez manages to bring together several powerful municipalist projects, the wear and tear on the PSPV could be significant in some very specific judicial parties. It is also true that these types of projects have not come to fruition although, for the moment, Ens Uneix has a provincial deputy - Natàlia Enguix (Ontinyent judicial party) - whose vote was key to giving the PP the majority in the Valencia Provincial Council.

But there is more. In recent days, the possibility has circulated in socialist caucuses that, with the change in the General Secretary of the PSPV, the Valencia Provincial Council could change to the hands of the left. The socialist spokesperson in the provincial institution, Carlos Fernández Bielsa, is one of the possible candidates to lead the party of the fist and the rose and there are many who point out that if he wins the PSPV congress he can finish the legislature as president of the Provincial Council From Valencia.

An extreme that those around the mayor of Ontinyent categorically rule out: "Now they are late. That possibility existed, but not anymore," they reiterate. They do not understand that those who have classified them as "traitors" and "sellouts" now make it believe that a successful motion of censure can be presented in the Provincial Council. Furthermore, it seems that Rodríguez feels comfortable with his alliance with the PP, as was evident yesterday in Fitur with his embrace of the president of the Generalitat, the popular Carlos Mazón.

This relationship seems so consolidated that it is not ruled out that on Wednesday, during the inauguration of the days of elected officials, the president of the Provincial Council, Vicent Mompó (of the PP), will be present, the organizers of the same point out.

Ens Uneix's intention with this meeting is to show muscle with around 60 elected officials - including mayors and councilors -. Thus, they hope to have the presence of the highest representatives of the City Councils of Calp (Ana Sala), Oliva (Yolanda Pastor), Nules (David García) or Morella (Bernabé Sangüesa), in addition to Ontinyent (Jorge Rodríguez himself).

After the reception at the Diputación de Valencia by vice-president Natàlia Enguix (Ens Uneix) - and with the unknown of Mompó's assistance - those invited will move to La Beneficiencia to participate in two work tables on municipalism, management and its condition of independent councilors.

Beyond the program of the meeting, in the background lies the idea dreamed of by Rodríguez of creating a political force that can, in the 2027 scenario, give him options to maintain and expand his power in supra-municipal institutions.

After this meeting of municipal elected officials of the Valencian Community, another one is also planned at the national level - next February 24 - to debate the potential of uniting different independent projects outside of the major parties. In fact, yesterday, taking advantage of the Fitur celebration in Madrid, there was already an improvised meeting between some of the mayors who will participate in this state meeting in February.
