Hispanic Heritage Day 2023: Schedule and route of the parade in Madrid

One more year, the military parade for Hispanic Heritage Day will be held tomorrow, Thursday, October 12, in Madrid. As a novelty for the 2023 edition, it can be highlighted that it will not pass through the emblematic La Castellana street, as previous governments had modified. Go back to your origins in terms of travel.

The parade will start in the Plaza de Carlos V (at the height of the main entrance to the Botanical Garden) and will end its route in the Plaza de Colón. That is, it will pass through the straight line that includes Paseo del Prado and Paseo de Recoletos.

The change is that there will be no parade in the northern area of Paseo de la Castellana as usual, since the furniture elements in the area of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, still under construction, make it difficult to repeat the military parade there.

The events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., with the arrival of The Kings to the stands. "Honors will be paid to His Majesties and Felipe VI will review the troops. Next, the jump of the Acrobatic Parachuting Patrol of the Air Force will take place," reports from the Ministry of Defense.

Afterwards, there will be the raising of the flag of Spain and the tribute to those who gave their lives for the country, which will be followed by the passage of the Eagle Patrol, the air and land parades of Units of the Armies, the Navy, the Guarida Civil, the Military Emergency Unit (UME), the Royal Guard, the State Security Forces and Bodies and various Security, Civil Protection and Emergency organizations. The event is expected to last around an hour and a half.

As it is expected that many people will come to see the parade, the Community of Madrid will reinforce the service on metro lines 1, 2, 4 and 5 by up to 55% for the day of the national holiday.

The special mobility plan prepared by the Department of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure will be operational from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and in the case of lines 1 and 2 it will also be extended between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. as it is a holiday.

The greatest reinforcement in public transport will take place first thing in the morning on metro line 2, which will go from 9 to 14 trains in circulation, which represents an increase of 55%. In total, 63 convoys will be enabled on the four lines, compared to the usual 45, which represents, on average, 40% more.

On the other hand, the regional Executive will increase user service personnel to organize the possible entry and exit flows at the closest stations and guarantee the normal transit of passengers. If necessary, and in order to avoid crowding, signs will be posted to facilitate travel for travelers.

Likewise, for the Carlos Vives concert, which will be held at Puerta de Alcalá on Saturday as part of the Hispanidad 2023 events organized by the Community of Madrid, the metro will also expand the train service on lines 1, 2, and 4 until by 30% from 11:00 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m.
