Feijóo will increase maternity and paternity leave for single-parent families

If Pedro Sánchez promised this week to increase paternity and maternity leave from 16 to 20 weeks, although the last three part-time, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has promised today to increase these permits in the case of single parent families. This is the promise that the popular leader made this Thursday to the representatives of the Malasmadres Club, including its creator, Laura Baena and the association's sociologist, Maite Egoscozabal.

Feijóo reminded them that it is not an electoral promise, but a conviction, since his party presented in Congress, the last legislature, a bill to modify the Statute of Workers and the Basic Statute of Public Employees, to expand permits 26-week maternity and paternity leave in the case of single-parent families.

This initiative had the majority support of the Lower House but it could not enter into force because, after its approval, the Table of Congress -with a majority of PSOE and UP- paralyzed it and finally fell as a result of the electoral call.

Now, Feijóo wants that, when the PP governs, it be one of the first measures to be processed in the Cortes, according to sources from the Popular Party after the meeting held at the PP headquarters, on Génova street in Madrid.

The president of the PP also spoke with the representatives of the Malasmadres Club about the demographic challenge, which in his opinion is one of the most important challenges facing our country in the coming years, a matter of State that, in his opinion, must be addressed from a holistic perspective.

In this line, Feijóo announced a few weeks ago that the Popular Party will also include in its electoral program the free school stage of 0-3 years to promote family reconciliation so that fathers and mothers can combine their professional development with the care of the children. children.

For Alberto Núñez Feijóo, women cannot be allowed to have to choose between a professional career and being mothers, with the consequent wage gap that results, and for this reason, he told them, he will work so that motherhood is no longer a glass ceiling .

Feijóo also advanced to the representatives of the Malasmadres Club that the PP will present its program on equality in the coming days in which it will demand an activism without labels, that does not confront and that allows it to continue advancing against the misappropriation of claims by the left that does not support neutral spaces, where people of different ideologies work for the common good.
