Ernesto Alterio surprises Sitges as an unscrupulous businessman in 'Moscas'

After his impressive debut in the direction of feature films with Ventajas de viajar en tren (2019), Aritz Moreno returns to the Sitges festival with Moscas, a film in which he surprises the staff again, taking as his starting point the acclaimed novel · that of Kike Ferrari, Que de lejos parecen moscas (Alfaguara, 2018), a portrait of the descent into hell of a powerful and despotic Argentine businessman who is brought to life by a masterful Ernesto Alterio. "I read a lot of dark novels and when I got my hands on Ferrari's book it caught my attention because it had elements that interested me, a thriller with a very clear detonator and a very large socio-political critical load". assures the Basque director in an interview with this newspaper. Moreno always had Ernesto Alterio in mind, with whom he already agreed in his first film for the role of Luis Machi, an individual who has a high-end car, wears twenty-one buttons and thinks he is superior to others. One day, while driving his vehicle he punctures a wheel and discovers that he has a dead body in the trunk. Who has placed it there and why?, a question that will torment the protagonist, who will be embroiled in a series of the most surreal events. Alterio confesses that he loves Aritz's look at Buenos Aires, a city that appears dirty and abandoned and that allowed the protagonist's psychological degradation to be visually staged. "We wanted it to be a very Argentinian film with a very specific character, which makes it possible to be understood in many parts, to be more universal", explains the actor. Putting myself in the shoes of this individual "has allowed me to explore very dark areas of the human soul". And he thinks that Machi "is also a product of this society with an excessive capitalism that produces this kind of monsters who feel unpunished and have fun humiliating".

The actor, who was born in Argentina but has been in Spain since the age of 7, refers to the process that Machi is going through as that of someone who appears "at the zenith of his success and at a given moment flies come out of him that they have to do with the fact that there is something rotten and it starts to crack." This man is also pathetic and rude to his own family. He is a curmudgeon who makes fun of the fact that his children lean towards culture. "He has an outsized ego and at the same time a great inferiority complex. And this mixture does horrible things." A disdain for the culture of the far-right Javier Milei, the favorite to win the presidential elections in Argentina on October 22. "It seems terrible and dangerous to me. He wants to burden everything... and it is tremendous that people need to support themselves in these kinds of figures", he laments.

On the other hand, yesterday the second season of 30 monedas was presented in Sitges, the series by Álex de la Iglesia which will premiere on HBO Max on October 23 and which, before landing on the platform, has made one of stop at this festival with its director and a large part of the cast.

This second installment of 30 coins was shot in 27 weeks in Spain, Italy, the United States, France and the United Kingdom. "HBO has put all its trust in us and this season is a little more ambitious than the previous one but much more in terms of history, creativity and enjoyment of the genre", assured De la Iglesia.

The new round of the series promises to bring many mysteries and concerns to the table and it also seems that it will give way to a third season: "The end is open, De la Iglesia is already working on the script for the third part and has been giving us some pills of what will happen", reveal the actors of this series with a choral cast.
