Commissioner Alícia Moriana will run for the post of mayor of the Mossos d'Esquadra, as La Vanguardia has been able to confirm from sources close to the veteran police officer. The woman, one of the eight police stations that holds the ribbon in the Catalan police, will compete in resume with the current head of the force Eduard Sallent who has also announced his intention to run for the position. Currently, the Catalan police have a major, Josep Lluís Trapero, the highest professional category of the organization. The organization chart of the Mossos includes the coexistence of two majors, an option that the Minister of the Interior Joan Ignasi Elena took advantage of to put the second place in the competition, thinking exclusively of Sallent.
In fact, when the director of the Catalan police, Pere Ferrer, announced the call for that second senior position, La Vanguardia published the news and already announced that at least one police station was seriously considering applying for the competition. The deadline for applicants to submit their application to participate in the contest ended on Thursday and Moriana formalized her candidacy at the last minute.
With three degrees, a doctorate, German and English, Moriana went on to command the central police region last year, replacing the police station Cristina Manresa, another of the women, the first to get the police station stripe, whom other police officers encouraged to appear in the square.
