Catalunya 2024 Elections: calendar of key dates for May 12

The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, announced on March 13 the call for elections to the Parliament for May 12 (12-M). Until that date, a calendar of designated dates is displayed, regulated by the electoral law, which determines key aspects such as the presentation of electoral lists, voting by mail, or the campaign.

The draws for the polling stations for the Catalan elections will be held between Saturday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 17. They are public draws and are carried out in the town halls under the supervision of the electoral boards.

Each table is made up of a president, two members and two substitutes for each member, making a total of nine members. Grouping together the more than 8,000 planned polling stations, there will be more than 72,000 Catalans who will be notified to go to the polling stations.

Notifications begin to be received three days after the draw, so from the 16th the people selected in the draw can be notified. The results are not public and a delay in notification will not invalidate the designation as a member of the board.

Typically, Post Office employees are responsible for distributing the documentation by certified mail with return receipt to the homes of the chosen people.

Voting by mail has been available since March 19 and can be requested until May 2, ten days before the Parliamentary elections.

Once the request has been made, voting by mail must be exercised between April 22 and May 8.

By law, campaigns must begin 15 days before the day of reflection, so in this case, political parties will begin their electoral campaign on the night of Thursday, April 25 to Friday, April 26.

It will last until two days before the elections, since on May 11, a day of reflection, no political event can be held.

The Loreg establishes that during the five days prior to the vote, it is prohibited to publish, disseminate or reproduce electoral polls by any means of communication, so Monday, May 6, will be the last day that polls and polls can be published.

After a day of reflection, on May 12 at 9:00 a.m. the polling stations will open their doors until 8:00 p.m. on the same day so that Catalans can exercise their right to vote.

Once the schools are closed, you will be able to see the live results of the elections at lavanguardia.es while the counting is taking place.
