The Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona arrested a very active arsonist who, in the morning from Thursday to Friday, kept a large area of the Eixample district ablaze after burning a large number of waste containers and motorbikes parked in the public road
A first balance figures the result of this man's action in 14 containers and 11 motorcycles. Some of these objects were completely charred after being devoured by the flames, which acquired great intensity, to the point of alerting a large number of neighbors.
The alleged perpetrator was caught red-handed. The detainee, who fully matched the description given by a witness of the events, was carrying the elements necessary to cause the fires.
The fires took place in the Sant Antoni and Nova Esquerra neighborhoods of the Eixample, in at least seven different points, in streets such as Avinguda Mistral, Sepúlveda, Floridablanca, Rocafort, Entença and Avinguda Roma. As reported by Betevé, there was also a fire behind the old Model prison, where the fire was caused by the recycling cartons of a business in the area. Most of the burnt motorbikes and containers were removed yesterday morning.
The action of arsonists who attack containers and vehicles parked in the street has a long history in many cities, although in the case of Barcelona, such a devastating action had rarely been seen.
