Aragonès bets on the referendum: "The amnesty alone does not resolve the conflict"

The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, has placed this Sunday the self-determination referendum as a key piece, along with the amnesty, in the negotiation to "resolve the conflict with the State" and has assured that it will be "firm" to to get it.

"The conflict with the State can only be resolved by voting at the polls (...). Six years after October 1, I want to emphasize clarity of objectives, self-determination and amnesty. And firmness in all areas, also in the negotiation, as a way to make it possible," said Aragonès, during the institutional statement he made in Fonollosa (Barcelona) on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of October 1.

At the same time, he has called for "joining efforts" to make possible "the definitive resolution of the sovereignty conflict with the State", which he sees as essential to "multiply the results."

After insisting that "everyone must be clear that amnesty alone does not resolve the conflict", Aragonès has opted to "use all avenues and also negotiation" to achieve the objective of the referendum, precisely when the independence movement is in conversations with the PSOE and Sumar ahead of the investiture of Pedro Sánchez.

"If the State Government wants to resolve this conflict, it must listen to and address this transversal and majority demand of the citizens. How we will do it is also a point of agreement today: the firmness, the strength of the citizens and also what they received from the ballot boxes. in this pulse, in this negotiation with the State Government. This path is open," he stressed, after warning about those who "from the cave" will want to prevent it.

The Catalan president has also emphasized the need to "unite" among the pro-independence forces to achieve political objectives. "We have to know how to add, speak and listen to realize that we are not that far from each other. We have to add up again and build again," he said.

Along these lines, he has urged "to do better than we have done so far. When we set our minds to it, we know how to do it. And when we set our minds to it, we have done it," he insisted, in a clear allusion to Junts.

The Catalan president has welcomed the joint position defended by ERC and Junts last week in Parliament: "It is good news. He urges the Government to take the lead and make the referendum recognized and we can make a new referendum a reality, with a result that is respected," he stated.
