Almeida repeats as mayor but this time free of Cs and without depending on Vox votes

As planned, José Luis Martínez Almeida was elected mayor of Madrid this Saturday, for the second time, but this time with the absolute majority that the polls gave him on May 28, which will mean that he will not have to depend on Vox, as until now, which prevented him, for example, from approving the municipal accounts or approving projects that those of Santiago Abascal vetoed him.

In the presence of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and former president Esperanza Aguirre, Martínez Almeida obtained the votes of his group, and was able to take the baton of command for the second time, with which he was sworn in. after which all the municipal groups took the floor to make a declaration of intent on what will be the legislature that is now beginning.

And among the spokespersons, the intervention of the Vox spokesman, Javier Ortega Smith, stood out, who during the previous legislature had a lot of influence given the minority majority that the mayor had, which made them essential, which he has now lost.

For this reason, he stressed that the absolute majority "is a double-edged sword", since it allows him to fulfill his promises "without excuses and without blaming his partners, Vox", but it can also lead him "to turn it into an arbitrary roller " that makes you believe that others have nothing to contribute. That is why he reminded him that "new elections will come" and it is convenient for him to "respect the people of Madrid."

An eminently political discourse, which reflects the tensions that are taking place between Vox and the PP due to the pacts they are signing to govern in the town halls and autonomous communities in which the popular ones do not have enough seats. A political speech that was joined by the socialist spokesperson, Reyes Maroto, who went directly to July 23 and defended the PSOE project, against that of the PP "which is defined by what it undoes and destroys" for what he called for on 23-J "place your trust in the PSOE, the only one with a project for the future".

However, Reyes Maroto did not forget municipal issues either and emphasized public housing, Equality, support for women, the elderly, support for the LGTBI collective, and in this sense asked the mayor that on the 28th let the LGTBI flag fly on the facade of the City Hall.

Rita Maestre, from Más Madrid, that in her speech it was also possible to intuit some political messages that could be directed at Podemos, since she spoke of the people of Madrid who have been left without voting rights, since their election does not have representation, and by emphasizing that when one does not win, or loses "you must ask yourself what was not done well".

The plenary session closed with the mayor, who extended his hand to all the municipal groups, once "the polls have spoken clearly", but the support obtained in all the different ones, since the PP has won in all of them "will not change the way of understanding politics and exercising government action".

José Luis Martínez Almeida promised "dialogue" to reach "big agreements", as "the agreements of La Villa" were achieved in the midst of a pandemic, and called on all parties to "work together to address the great challenges".

Regarding municipal matters, the mayor promised to make effective the constitutional right to have decent housing and for this he was determined to carry out all the initiatives that began in the previous legislature, at the same time that he made social attention to the most disadvantaged sectors.
