He is, according to The Guardians sources of intelligence, one of the leading figures behind the genocide of the minority of yazidier in 2014. According to the U.S. state department, he has helped to plan several terrorist attacks around the world.

He was in 2004 held in the famous 'ICE prison' Camp Bucca in southern Iraq. Here he met, among others, Islamic State's former leader, Baghdadi.
