Olivia Newton-John, thirty years of activism against breast cancer

"Psychologically it is better to have no idea about the time I have left, I want not to think and live to the fullest". This is how forceful Olivia Newton-John was in 2019 during an interview for Australian television. The actress announced that she had cancer again but, above all, she was optimistic, especially in front of the cameras, aware that she could motivate more than one: "I am lucky to have been through this situation three times and still be here. We will all die one day," she concluded.

Finally, it was this Monday when the protagonist of Grease gave her last goodbye. Although the reason for her death did not surprise her fans, it is true that there were very few who expected this sudden news. In fact, only her inner circle, as Newton-John was active on social networks until the end. She was also in the hardest moments and, as long as her health allowed it, she was unable to say no for an answer to any project related to the disease.

Without going any further, she founded the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness

The Australian actress suffered from stage 4 breast cancer with metastases at the base of her spine. However, she always reneged on the verbs of war that are often used to talk about the disease. “I choose not to see it as a battle because I don't like war. I don't like to fight, whether it's outside or a real war inside my body, ”she sentenced. What's more, she even stated that "cancer is not a death sentence, for me it has been a gift." And it is that everything bad has its good part, she recognized, because it helped her to live life in another way and with more calm.

The first breast cancer came in 1992, so this year marked exactly 30 years in her "journey" against cancer, as she herself used to call it. Her bad news came to him shortly after her father's death. However, after receiving treatment she was cured.

The second time coincided with another terrible event, the death of his sister in a traffic accident in 2013. That same year, the doctors again found a tumor in his chest. The last one came in 2017, this time with more complications than the previous ones, as she had bone metastases. However, that did not prevent her activism or her participation in multiple public events, many of them related to the forty years of Grease, the film that made her famous with her soulmate, John Travolta .

Her loved ones have long helped her raise funds for research. In fact, the best tribute they have been able to pay her has been to ask that instead of flower crowns, donations be made to her foundation fund.
