A friend of Meloni's, among the three murdered at a neighborhood meeting in Rome

A neighborhood meeting in the Roman periphery ended yesterday in horror. Three women were killed by one of the tenants, Claudio Campiti, 57, who showed up at the bar where the meeting was taking place and opened fire on the managers and then started shooting at the neighbors. Among the deceased is Nicoletta Golisano, one of those who kept the accounts, who is also a personal friend of the family of the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.

Meloni, devastated by what happened, has defined Golisano as a "sincere and discreet friend, a strong and fragile woman at the same time, but above all a professional with an unusual sense of duty." This "sense of duty" that led her to go one Sunday to the bar on Monte Giberto street, in the Fidene neighborhood, north of the Italian capital, where she lost her life.

"She was my friend. She leaves behind her husband, Giovanni, and a splendid ten-year-old boy, Lorenzo. With hers, other families, to whom I express all my closeness, have been destroyed, ”wrote the premier on her social networks, hoping that justice would be done as soon as possible. “She was happy, beautiful, in the red dress that she had bought for her 50-year-old party a few weeks ago. For me she will always be beautiful and happy like this ”.

Among the wounded is also a 67-year-old man, the “hero” of this massacre, who was the one who confronted the murderer and prevented him from firing shots until he reached the police to arrest him. One woman was seriously injured and has already undergone surgery, but she remains in critical condition.

Campiti's weapons permit had been withdrawn, but an identity document was enough to get hold of a semi-automatic pistol at a shooting range, which has already been closed by the police forces. It all happened first thing in the morning, when he entered the premises, accused them of being "gangsters" and announced that he was going to kill them all, before starting to shoot. He was ready to escape: he has 6,000 eros in cash and his passport on top.

The community that managed an organization between the towns of Ascrea and Rocca Sinibalda, near Rome, in the province of Rieti, but the meeting was held in the capital because most of the residents reside here. “He was against them because he didn't want to pay the fees and he wanted revenge. They had threatened us more times, we had reported it to the police, to the prosecutor's office and also to the City Council," the vice president of the 200-apartment community told the Italian press.

In response, he had also denounced the presence of some out-of-order windows and pools. He had a blog where he already warned of his intentions, assuring that they had him in the dark and he could "shoot more calmly." According to Italian media, the man had undergone a change of character after losing his 14-year-old son in a skiing accident. The mayor of Rome has defined the massacre as a "very serious episode of violence that has horrified the city" and has shown his closeness to the families of the victims.
