These are the eight sailors who will represent Spain in the youth Copa América

Last Wednesday, Sail Team BCN presented the members of the youth team that will represent Spain in the Youth America's Cup under the banner of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. The crew is made up of Albert Torres, Neus Ballester, Marcos Fernández, Martín Wizner, Conrad Konitzer, Nico Martin, Jaime Framis and Antonio Torrado.

The young team will compete from September 17 to 26, along with a total of 12 teams, the six that compete in the Sailing America's Cup (New Zealand, Great Britain, the United States, Italy, Switzerland and France), and an additional six: Spain , Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Sweden and Australia.

The public presentation event, which took place this Wednesday at the Sitges Yacht Club, was organized by CaixaBank, as the team's sponsor, and the Port of Sitges, as the Sail Team BCN training base. It included the participation of Florenci Almunia, president of the host club; Albert Bertran, president of Port de Sitges; Benjamí Puigdevall, CEO of imagin; Aurora Carbonell, mayor of Sitges and, of course, the young crew of Sail Team BCN.

At the event, Benjamí Puigdevall, CEO of imagin, noted that “it is an honor to be able to accompany this brilliant team of athletes who, despite their youth, have an impressive track record.” The mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, closed the event by thanking the team for their time and service "to promote Sitges as a tourist destination, but as a municipality that loves sports, healthy living and, above all, the sea."

The sailors, all born between 1999 and 2003, also took the stage at the presentation ceremony to demonstrate their conviction and motivation. Albert Torres, runner-up in the 420 world, highlighted that this "is a unique opportunity, we have dreamed of this since we were little. It is an important stage towards the professional, where we want to go."

Although the Copa América is the oldest tournament in the world of sports, held for the first time in 1851, the youth category is only celebrating its third edition, after 2013 and 2017.
