The stolen phone and the two suitcases of hashish in La Mina

There are police services that sometimes have a plus of good luck that makes simple investigations that under normal conditions could require months of investigation. A sort of coincidence of elements of a different nature that turns a shift that seemed routine into a great job with better results.

And this is exactly what happened last Saturday night to a couple of furas (plainclothes mossos specialized in tracking repeat thieves) from the Mossos d'Esquadra de Sant Martí police station in Barcelona. A young Pakistani man from the neighborhood appeared whose mobile phone had just been stolen. And although thieves are used to getting rid of phone cards quickly, the victim's terminal gave a clear location signal in the neighboring neighborhood of La Mina, and until there they approached with the victim in the back of a vehicle little seen in Sant Adrià.

The two police officers and the victim were parked near the Plaza de Camarón, the heart of the La Mina neighborhood, when a neighbor's comment caught their attention, right at the entrance to a portal. "You can leave quickly that there is nobody watching." And from that goal two individuals appeared carrying suitcases that must have weighed their own due to the effort. They loaded the packages into a vehicle parked on the sidewalk, got in the car, and started off.

The police car closely followed the suspect vehicle, while the Fura requested reinforcements from the Arro of the northern metropolitan police region, which was practically around the corner at that moment providing security for the Bizarrap concert. The car made the gesture of entering a parking lot in the same neighborhood, at whose entrance there were two other men. The policemen acted quickly, they overtook the other car and made everyone believe that they were entering the parking lot, but in reality they crossed each other, blocking the entrance. They got out of the car, gun in hand, with the Pakistani hidden between the rear seats of the car by police order. One of the individuals carrying the suitcases was arrested and the other managed to flee, as well as the parking guards.

This is a young Colombian who had not even arrived in Barcelona for six months and with an impeccable police file. His partner managed to run away. The surprise was huge when the policemen opened the suitcases. Inside, almost a hundred kilos of high-quality hashish were kept.

The Badalona Mossos investigation unit has taken charge of the case.
