The Santa Coloma de Gramenet night watchman service has completed four years. In 2022 alone, they performed almost 130,000 performances, making it a service with proven effectiveness. Proof of this is that other municipalities have copied the initiative.
Last year the night watchmen carried out 2,573 actions to accompany people, mostly women, and 410 citizen services out of a total of 128,333 actions. The night uniforms provide service to all neighborhoods of the city, 364 days a year, from 11:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The team is made up of 72 people over the age of 45, who were unemployed and who have been hired for four years. They are coordinated by three municipal officials.
The project is one of those that has been best received by the citizens of Santa Coloma and has contributed to improving the perception of security, without in any case having to replace the police, since they do not intervene in situations related to criminal activities , robberies or serious emergencies, which they immediately notify the security forces. Its function is very similar to that carried out by civic agents who also tour the city during the day.
