The Generalitat Valenciana will finance the promotion of affordable rental housing

The Valencian Institute of Finance (IVF) of the Generalitat will finance the promotion of affordable rental housing in the Valencian territory with the use of European funds, as announced on Monday by the head of the Consell, the socialist Ximo Puig.

During his speech before a hundred businessmen at the Circular Conferences organized in Sant Joan d'Alacant by the Alicante Business Club Chamber, the head of the Consell explained that this affordable housing initiative, which will take advantage of European funds, aims to ensure "public financing so that the necessary homes are built" to achieve the objective of renting at an adequate price.

"The Generalitat wants to contribute to the constitutional right to housing in agreement with developers and builders to generate the maximum possible affordable housing and official rental protection," said Puig, who remarked that the Consell "will accompany" in this process in an attempt to "make renting easier." And he has implicitly compared this initiative with the successful experience of the Edificant plan, in the field of construction of educational centers.

According to Puig, to make housing cheaper, land must be liberalized but, he has warned, using "formulas that do not generate another real estate bubble that gave such bad results."

"It is about freeing up land in agreement with the town halls so that prices can be favored and that they are positive when it comes to linking the rents with more difficulties", he stated, for which it is necessary to coordinate with the promoters and builders , in addition to municipal corporations.

With regard to measures against illegal occupation of homes, he indicated that this problem "exists" but it is not the main difficulty in the field of housing, despite which he intends, "through dialogue", "to be as effective as possible to achieve the fundamental right to housing and (also) that the owner has the capacity to act accordingly when he has a specific problem".

In any case, he has defended that housing policy "reconcile interests" in the sense that there is a vulnerable territory but that, at the same time, "it is absolutely necessary to continue growing."

The business meeting was presented by the president of the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, Carlos Baño, and the vice president of the chamber organization, Jesús Navarro.
