If you have any of these jobs, worry: AI could kill them

The expansion of artificial intelligence tools in recent months has generated a great social debate. What possibilities and advantages can these applications offer us? What place does ethics occupy in its use? What training do we need to use them? And above all, what will be the impact on our jobs?

In recent weeks, the impact of these new technologies on the labor market has begun to become noticeable. The Domestika company plans to lay off 89 workers in Spain. The motives used by the American company? Among others, the impact of AI.

"The current macroeconomic context is causing cuts in the entire technology sector, but we are also directly affected by the automation of processes of new artificial intelligence applications, such as ChatGPT," said the company specializing in online training.

Although the news has taken many by surprise, OpenAI already warned at the end of March that this could happen. In a report published together with the University of Pennsylvania, the company that created ChatGPT warned that this type of artificial intelligence tools have enough potential to affect a large part of the labor market.

“Our results reveal that about 80% of the US workforce could see at least 10% of their work tasks affected by the introduction of GPTs, while approximately 19% of workers could see at least 50% affected. % of their tasks”, explain the authors in the report.

The OpenAI report makes a difference between two types of professions. On the one hand, those jobs in which science and critical thinking skills are essential, the risk of being affected by applications such as ChatGPT is lower. On the contrary, those professions where the most necessary skills are programming and writing are more likely to be influenced by linguistic models.

So which jobs are in jeopardy? According to the report, there are a number of professions that have a very high exposure to these technologies. We are talking about jobs related to mathematics, tax and financial analysis, writing and copywriting (for example, journalism), digital design and web development, among others.

Even so, the authors point out: “The occupations listed in this table are those in which we estimate that ChatGPT can save workers a significant amount of time in performing a large part of their tasks, but it does not necessarily suggest that their tasks can be fully automated using these technologies.”

Faced with these professions, there are others with very little chance of being affected by artificial intelligence. The report compiles some of them: cooks, cleaners, cashiers, electricians, barbers, medical assistants, customer service representatives...

In conclusion, the report warns: “As capabilities continue to evolve, the impact of AI on the economy is likely to persist and increase, posing major challenges.”

It is a good time to train in artificial intelligence and learn how the tools of the future work. With the Master in Artificial Intelligence from IMF Smart Education you approach the subject not only from a theoretical point of view, but you also learn to incorporate these techniques into social and business reality

For its part, with the University Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence taught by UNIR you will learn about research in artificial intelligence, cognitive neuroscience, computational perception, reasoning and regional planning, among others.

Finally, in the Postgraduate Course in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at IEBS you will learn the main data capture, storage and processing techniques that will allow you to be an expert in artificial intelligence.
