On Saturday, Abbott tweeted: "Hanging out on the front porch of the vice president's residence. Thanks @VP."

The following day, Abbott joined 45 other governors from across the country and their spouses for the Governors Ball, an annual event hosted by the president. President Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted the governors in the State Dining Hall.

Historically, the vice president and their family have lived in a home located on the United States Naval Observatory grounds, according to the White House website. The observatory is about three miles north of the White House in Washington, D.C.

Vice Presidents George H.W. Bush, Dan Quayle, Al Gore, Dick Cheney and Joe Biden all lived in the observatory with their families, according to the website.
