After the trips to Perpignan during the Franco regime to see cinematic nudity, the Spanish appetite for freedom in the transition led to allowing S-rated cinema (in 1977). It was the time of the uncovering, which enjoyed great success. But a legal regulation of pornographic cinema was missing, which would wait until 1983, 40 years ago, addressed by Pilar Miró, as general director of Cinematography.
A royal decree applied on April 29 established the category of "X movies", both for those with pornographic content and for those that advocated violence. The X theaters could not be accessed "in any case" by those under 18. Stronger tax measures were imposed on them than on the rest of the film exhibition. All this made them marginal. In 2022 the last room X closed in Valencia.
