The mayor of Arenys de Mar receives a recognition for Salvador Espriu in Madrid

The mayor of Arenys de Mar (Maresme), Estanis Fors, received today from the hands of the acting Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, and the acting Minister of the Presidency, Fèlix Bolaños, the declaration of recognition and reparation to Salvador Espriu in a act framed in the celebration of the Day of Tribute and Remembrance to the victims of war and dictatorship. The delivery took place this afternoon at the National Music Auditorium, in Madrid.

During the presentation, it was highlighted that Espriu was one of the great innovators of poetry in Catalan, his prolific literary production, the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes that he received and that he was a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Furthermore, in 1966 he was arrested and fined for his participation in the Capuchinada of Barcelona.

The event served to honor Espriu and other men and women who were victims and fighters during the dictatorship. In his speech, Minister Bolaños stated that "they are the country's living democratic memory" and Spanish President Sánchez stressed that democratic memory "is a matter of State", announcing, among other things, the creation of a DNA bank for missing people. and thanking the work of the entities that work for historical memory.
