Director Isabel Coixet has been awarded the European Achievement in world Cinema, awarded by the European Film Academy to "pay tribute to her career and recognize her impressive contribution to the world of cinema."

The director, who has just released her latest feature film, 'Un amor', thus becomes the first Spanish director to receive the award, which has been received among others by Isabelle Huppert, Juliete Binoche, Lars Von Trier or Roman Polanski, or the Spanish Antonio Banderas in 1999, Victoria Abril in 2002 and Pedro Almodóvar in 2013.

Born in Barcelona, ​​her debut feature 'Too Old to Die Young' (1989) earned her a first nomination for Best New Director at the Goya Awards. In 1996 he traveled to the United States and filmed 'Things I Never Told You', which premiered at the Berlinale.

In 2000 she founded Miss Wasabi Films, a producer of music videos and documentaries. Then came films like 'My Life Without Me' (2003), 'The Secret Life of Words' (2005), 'Elegy' (2008) and 'Nobody Wants the Night' (2015). In 2018, he won several Goya awards for 'The Library' (Best Film and Best Director).

Another documentary, 'The Yellow Roof' (2022), about a group of students who file a complaint for sexual abuse, premiered in San Sebastián and won the Gaudí Catalán award for Best Documentary. Thanks to the investigation for the film, the prosecution reopened the case about sexual abuse at a theater school.

In 2015 he received the renowned award from the Ordre de Chevalier des arts et des lettres of France and in 2020 the National Film Award, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Spain. With a total of nine awards, Isabel Coixet is the filmmaker with the most Goya awards.

She is also honorary president of the European Women's Audiovisual Network EWA. Isabel Coixet will be guest of honor at the 36th European Film Awards Ceremony on December 9 in Berlin.
