Acne is a skin disorder caused by the clogging of a pore with oil or dead cells. It is usually common for it to appear on the face or back, since they are areas of the body, generally very fatty. Acne can be accompanied by pain and is not exclusive to the adolescent age, although it is much more common.

In adolescence it is completely normal to have acne due to hormonal changes. Some hormonal changes that occur, also, when women reach 50 years and approach menopause. During this process, many women may go through a phase where acne returns to their lives. As for men, disorders related to the thyroid gland can also cause acne breakouts in advanced ages.

During menopause there is a decrease in progesterone and estrogen. This results in a series of hormonal imbalances that can lead to increased fat production. In addition, there is a decrease in collagen and the skin loses part of its ability to stay hydrated: therefore, it is more exposed to external elements such as pollution or the sun's rays, all of which are elements that favor the appearance of acne.
