The Local Police of Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona) will soon have a new member in its ranks. This is Fénix, a Belgian Malinois puppy mistreated by his previous owner and who is now being trained to be part of the security force's canine unit.

The dog, just over six months old, came to the police by chance. They received a call about a case of animal abuse. They went to the area and found a seriously injured furry man. "Everything indicates that they tried to kill him," explains Raúl Carillo, Canine Unit agent.

He was immediately taken to a veterinary hospital for surgery, they explain through their social networks. And thanks to the rescue, this Belgian shepherd looks different. Currently, he runs, jumps and "seems happy", although he is still in the recovery process, they detail.

The name chosen is not a coincidence. It was chosen by Ferran, one of the Local Police agents: Phoenix, in reference to the bird that is reborn from its ashes.

While he fully recovers his mobility, the Sant Boi Local Police train him so that he can become part of the force's Canine Unit. "He will be tested," he says. And they are optimistic, "because he already demonstrates certain abilities."

While waiting for that moment to arrive, he accompanies the agents on their visits to different educational centers in the municipality. The talks are an important part of a driver's education program "to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and animal abuse."
