Making a potato omelette is 20.4% more expensive than a year ago, eating crustaceans, molluscs and fish preparations is 8.1%, and having buttered toast for breakfast is close to 12%. This increase in prices occurs in a context marked by the impact of the war in Ukraine, which continues to influence the economy almost a year and a half after the start of the conflict.

Although the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has moderated in Spain, going from 10.8% in July 2022, the maximum reached in the country, to 2.3% in July this year, the interannual rate of food closed the seventh month of 2023 at 10.8%.

However, when cooking, it must be taken into account that the price of electricity, gas and other fuels has fallen by 34.1% compared to July 2022.

In this way, making a potato omelette costs more this July than a year ago, since eggs have become more expensive by 12.8%, oil by 20.4% and potatoes have risen by 16.7% its price. Similarly, eating crustaceans, molluscs and fish preparations is 8.1% more expensive, while fresh and frozen fish have increased in price by 3.8%.

Breakfast has also become more expensive this summer, since a toast with butter has risen in price by almost 12%, due to the fact that dairy products have increased by 11.8% and bread by 4.9%, to which add the increase of 8.1% in the price of coffee and 44.2% if sugar is added.
