Bach's music takes over the Boqueria market

The Mercat de la Boqueria once again becomes, once again, the venue for classical music. This Friday it will bring together sixty international performers who will commemorate the musical legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach, the most important reference in baroque music.

German students from the Liebigschule in Giessen, in collaboration with musicians from the Gran Teatre del Liceu, will celebrate the composer's 338th birth with two concerts.

Eight cellists will perform at 3:00 p.m. inside the building, while at 4:00 p.m. 52 musicians will perform the best pieces on the market porches.

This tribute to Bach is part of the Bach in subways initiative in New York, and Barcelona becomes, along with Seville, the only two Spanish cities to host this project.

In 2011, a project promoted by cellist Dale Henderson was born between the subway entrances of New York, who fought to revive classical music, bringing Bach's best pieces closer to a live experience.

Since then, international musicians have gathered every March to perform Bach's music and share their inspiration for classical music, not only in subways but also in public places.
