Social networks are capable of uniting people for a good cause and on this occasion they have not disappointed after more than 200 people have asked to adopt an abandoned dog with six legs and two vulvas that has conquered the Internet.
The 11-week-old puppy, named Ariel after the Little Mermaid character, was found in the car park of a shopping center in Pembroke, south Wales, before being taken to a local vet.
There, the veterinarians named the dog Ariel because her extra hind legs, partially fused, reminded them of a mermaid's tail, which would end up making her tremendously popular on social media.
“When Ariel was brought to our center, she was very scared and shy, and she spent the first night home with me almost completely disconnected from everything she had been through,” explains Mikey Lawlor, founder and director of Greenacres Rescue.
Ariel has two extra hind legs and the beginnings of another vulva to add to her complex pelvis, which has not formed properly due to the strange hip joint.
The plan will be to let her settle after her ordeal and re-evaluate her in a month with the goal of removing the extra limbs and exploring the function of her remaining leg.
