The three-color formula to decorate the perfect living room by David Thomas

Private rooms decorated with unique pieces and works of art provide a cozy break during the shopping day and are the setting for activities related to art, design and fashion. They are called The Apartment and the interior designer who gave them life is David Thomas, architect of the expansion of the Ralph Lauren empire throughout Europe and who also designs Goyard points of sale around the world.

Thomas was born in Memphis, famous for blues, soul and rock 'n' roll, and has had a studio in Paris for more than 25 years. She confesses that she has developed “a European sensibility for beauty and design, but she retained an American sense of practicality and precision.”

For La Roca Village, he was inspired “by Barcelona and the particular Mediterranean lifestyle of Catalonia. I was lucky enough to spend time there and visit many iconic places and private homes - it was a wonderful experience. I took these stimuli and added my own flavor to them. The old tile floors I got in Barcelona were a great source of inspiration for the overall design. I love using traditional elements in a contemporary way.”

Each of the rooms has its own style, with oriental influences, tropicalism or urban sophistication... As seen in this and other of his projects, the designer is passionate about color, which is usually his starting point to address the interior design: “I start with a particular tone and then the rest of the room joins it,” he says. “The bar,” he explains, “is the entry point and seeks a surprising impact. The turquoise living room is a masculine environment, with a beautiful tiled fireplace, and the pink is more feminine, with pastel tones. I love the antique mirrors and antique plates that decorate it; I got them all in Barcelona with the help of my gallery owner friend Rubén Torres.”

In contrast, the Personal Shopper Suites have been designed "as a work area to relax while trying on clothes or enjoying a special brand offer, therefore they are more functional," explains their creator.

At home, the qualities Thomas values most are comfort, texture and natural light and he reveals that he has started using outdoor fabrics inside. “They are strong and often much more durable, and there are now very beautiful designs.” For him, a design is not complete "without happy clients", not in vain, he recognizes that the motto that guides him is: understand your client. The role of a designer is to listen to a client's wishes and dreams and deliver a final project that exceeds their expectations."
