The lawyer for Edwin Arrieta's family calls a press conference one month before the trial

More than 6 months have passed since Daniel Sancho, son of actor Rodolfo Sancho, entered a Thai prison after confessing to the murder and dismemberment of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta. One month before the trial, which will be held in the courts of Samui (Thailand) from April 9 to May 3, the victim's lawyer has announced a surprise press conference this Friday at 1:00 p.m. in his office in Madrid after back from Thailand.

Juan Gonzalo Ospina, lawyer for Edwin Arrieta's family, has called the press with the aim of discussing the case of the accused Daniel Sancho and the defense that the family will bring before the Thai courts. Additionally, he will respond to some of the media's questions regarding the judicial proceedings that will take place during the trial.

However, it is not the first time that lawyers for one of the two parties have gathered the press. In mid-January, the three lawyers of the accused, Daniel Sancho, summoned the media to highlight the much-questioned procedures of the Thai police.

The defender of the Arrieta family has returned from the Asian continent after having traveled to the country with the purpose of verifying that the judicial process is being carried out correctly, and, as he has stated to the media, so as not to "get any surprises before the trial." ”.

“We wanted to coordinate and check that the accusation was well worked out and that the interrogation that was going to be carried out on the witnesses was clear,” stated the jurist. On the other hand, Edwin's defender has taken advantage of his time in Thailand to review the case file and collect some of the victim's belongings.

Furthermore, during his stay he met with the Prosecutor's Office and the Colombian consulate to check "how the witnesses were going to testify", and what would be the procedure to be followed by Edwin's mother and sister, who will be in charge. to intervene in the trial. “We wanted to verify any preliminary issue that could arise when taking civil and criminal action,” he told the media.

The lawyer has also assured that his main mission has been to convey the gratitude of the Arrieta family: "They have asked me to convey their gratitude to the prosecutor for the work done, as well as to the Colombian embassy." Gonzalo Opsina also thanked the victim's relatives for their collaboration, stating that "they have been involved beyond formalities."
