The famous Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has died at the age of 83 after a long illness, according to the ANSA news agency. Cavalli, born in 1940 in Florence, died on Friday, April 12, in his hometown, leaving behind an impressive legacy in the world of fashion and a large family.
The Italian couturier was known for his bold designs that often incorporated exquisite furs and embroidery. However, Cavalli had retired from public life after selling his eponymous brand in 2015. Since then, there had been much speculation about his health because he was rarely seen.
Just one year before his death, at the age of 82, Cavalli had announced the arrival of his sixth child, Giorgio, who he had with his last wife, Sandra Nilsson-Bergam, a former Playboy model 45 years his junior. "I named him Giorgio in honor of my father, who was shot by the Germans in July 1944 in an assault on Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni. He was a surveyor and worked in a mine in Valdarno.
