Pablo Herrero, the talented composer and lyricist born in Madrid in 1942, recognized for his contributions to Spanish music, has died at the age of 81. The General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE) confirmed the sad news this Tuesday, highlighting his relevance as vice president of the entity and his impressive catalog of almost 800 registered works.
Pablo Herrero, along with his inseparable José Luis Armenteros, was part of the influential musical group 'Los Relámpagos' between 1965 and 1968. After this stage, both dedicated themselves to production and composition for other artists in the production company Mecenas, becoming the team most important composition and production in the second half of the 20th century in Spain.
Herrero was the genius behind timeless hits like 'Libre' and 'A kiss and a flower' for the unforgettable Nino Bravo.
The SGAE described Herrero as the "paradigm of the author", remembering his essential contribution to the world of Spanish music. In addition to his collaborations with Nino Bravo, Herrero was responsible for hits such as 'Cuéntame', 'Eva María' and 'La fiesta de Blas' for Formula V, 'Como una ola' for Rocío Jurado, 'Latino' for Francisco, and ' Freedom without anger' for Jarcha. They were also authors of 'Venezuela', a song that became an anthem for the Venezuelan people and was covered by several artists.
The SGAE expressed its condolences, describing Herrero as a creator whose “essential legacy will always accompany us.”
The music world mourns the loss of one of its greatest exponents, while fans and colleagues fondly remember his unmatched contribution to the Spanish music scene.
