One year has passed since Belén Esteban's injury: this was her spectacular fall in 'Save me'

Belén Esteban has experienced all kinds of situations on the small screen. He has laughed out loud, he has cried like nobody else, he has gotten angry with his best friends and he has left us iconic moments that are already part of the history of television in our country.

But there have also been very hard times in terms of health. In addition to some drops in sugar and small scares, a year ago, on April 25, 2022, Miguel Marcos's wife participated in a test with her partner Lydia Lozano in which she slipped with such bad luck that she broke her tibia and the fibula, something that made him stop his life completely and be out for months.

It all happened when the management of the program decided to entertain and amuse the audience by carrying out some of the tests of Survivors on the Telecinco set. The idea was for several collaborators to carry them out and discover who was the best physically prepared worker.

The first of these tests consisted of holding on to a railing without falling to the ground for as long as possible. Lydia Lozano (62 years old) and Belén Esteban (49 years old) were chosen to carry out such a feat, although they did not turn out very well.

When they had barely been hanging on the wood for 4 seconds, the ex of Jesulín de Ubrique's hands slipped and she fell directly to the ground on her own high-heeled shoes, which caused her right leg to bend and suffer great damage. This led to endless criticism of the program, since they had not put any type of protection on the ground.

The fall was heard throughout the set, as well as the cries of pain from Paracuellos, who already knew something was wrong. After a first and quick assessment by the Mediaset medical team, the professionals transferred her to the La Luz hospital, a medical center where they confirmed that Belén Esteban had a broken tibia and fibula.

From that moment on, Esteban's life changed, since he had to abandon his job, his leisure activities, sports... to focus on a long and tedious recovery process that would take several months.

The injury reached such magnitude that they had to intervene in his leg using 20 nails and two 4.5-centimeter plates to weld the bone well. In addition, the collaborator received a total of 55 points, which caused her a lot of pain.

Belén Esteban has not hidden the fact that on April 25 her life suffered a painful setback and that she felt that everything had stopped: ''My life stopped. Fear blocked me and I sank". A very painful postoperative period with her bruised leg connected to a machine that was draining the area to speed up her recovery, difficulties sleeping, cramps... Andrea Janeiro's mother suffered an absolute odyssey.

Although the physical pain was significant and Esteban spent months working with physical therapists on rehabilitation exercises (he is still exercising today), the worst thing for her was the sadness that the incident caused her: "I didn't want to see anyone, or eat, no way... I sank," he confessed to Semana magazine. Today, one year later, after receiving psychological help and a lot of love from her loved ones, Belén Esteban is much better and is positive and eager to fully recover and move on.
