New disrespect from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the Crown: they change the surnames of their children

The British royal family is going through one of the toughest moments. The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, underwent abdominal surgery a few weeks ago that, it seems, ended up being complicated. At the same time, the news came to light that King Charles III suffers from cancer. In the midst of this delicate situation, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have once again made headlines, and not exactly positive ones.

The couple's life changed radically after they renounced the titles of the British monarchy and the financial support of the Crown. The couple moved to California (United States) in 2020 and broke with everything that had to do with the British monarchy. In the last few hours, it has become known that they have made a new decision: to change their children's surnames to promote their economic projects, sponsorships, companies, organizations and foundations.

The couple's businesses carry the Sussex seal, so this would have had something to do with making this change. A few days ago, the couple launched their new website, Sussex.com. This address will function as a platform for your projects. Visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the couple thanks to this website, and on it, they can read information about their marriage and their children Archie, 4, and Lilibet, two. "Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex," can be seen, while using their royal titles.

On the other hand, the website also provides links to its Archewell Foundation and the Archewell Productions center. In one section, Prince Harry describes himself as a "humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate and environmental activist." And Meghan as "a feminist and defender of human rights and gender equality."

Among the details that have attracted the most attention on their new website, has been the name with which they refer to their two children, Archie and Lilibet. While until now the little ones had the Mountbatten-Windsor behind her name, now this has disappeared and the last name that can be seen is Sussex. This has generated a real stir, since the surname Mountbatten-Windsor responded to a tradition of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Philip of Edinburgh.

The tradition dates back to 1960, 64 years ago. The surname Mountbatten belonged to Prince Henry's grandfather. When Philip married Elizabeth II, he had to give in and put aside his surname to make way for the Windsor. He did so accepting that his children would change the order of their surnames and take their maternal name first and then their paternal surname. Then, the next generation could decide how to order them. The decision to change the little ones' surnames is surprising, since Harry and Meghan were the first to decide to honor the Duke of Edinburgh, putting Mountbatten first and then Windsor.

At the moment, it is unknown why the couple would have made this decision. On the other hand, there are already British media that point to a new disrespect towards the Royal Family. However, there are many others who point out that it could be a way to give more visibility if possible to their title, in order to boost business through this common name. Be that as it may, what they have managed to do is make headlines again and launch a new, very significant controversy, since the royal family is now experiencing one of the worst moments in its recent history.
