Álvaro Rico is one of the most established young actors on the Spanish acting scene. Debuting in the Movistar series Velvet Colection, the Toledo native saw his opportunity to rise to fame with his appearance in Elite, the popular Netflix series about Las Encinas High School. Under the role of Polo, he gave three unforgettable seasons to the global public, before saying goodbye to one of the most famous forms of production.
Seven years after his first appearance, Rico has accumulated much more experience, both on the small and big screen and theatrical stages. A trajectory that he has reviewed together with Jesús Calleja in Planeta Calleja, in what has marked the debut of the program in Sri Lanka. The presenter and the interpreter have traveled to various corners of its geography, enjoying the extensive tea fields and discovering surprising details.
The one from La Puebla de Montalbán, for example, invited his representative to the trip, knowing that he would enjoy this experience to the fullest. She was in charge of revealing that in Velvet she only earned “500 euros”, this being her first role in a fiction as Nicolás. However, it was not the greatest of the complications that she suffered behind the cameras. Among them, ignorance of internal terminology.
“I didn't know what an Italian was,” Rico confessed. The Italian term refers to the meetings prior to filming, in which the scripts are read. A long-term term in the actors' guild and one that Toledo native had to learn while managing his nerves. Despite this, staying silent may have saved his career after a gesture that caused a brawl on tape.
According to Rico, during one of his breaks he left a bottle of water in a random corner of the set. Unknowingly, she was located in the middle of one of the scenes, and she ended up immortalized in several of the shots without anyone realizing it until a while later. While Álvaro remained silent, several members of the production began to argue and question where this objective that broke continuity had come from.
“It was me, I admit it,” he said, assuring that he could have been fired if he raised his voice. Despite this, those seven episodes recorded in 2017 were his first springboard to acting stardom. From that point on, Rico would find his role in Elite and would end up participating in a multitude of additional projects, diversifying his career as an actor.
