How to scare birds away from your porch or terrace

After several summers wanting to have a perfect porch or terrace to enjoy good weather, you have finally achieved it. Some comfortable seats in which to have an aperitif or simply relax, some plants that harmonize and some lights that create an atmosphere. It is that simple to get an enjoyable terrace. There is only one problem, it seems that you are not the only one who appreciates all these improvements, also the birds that usually come.

These animals can be annoying for some people, especially if they cause certain damages or damage to furniture or decorations on a terrace or porch, for example, dirtying them with feces. However, there are different peaceful and effective methods with which to avoid these unwanted visits.

One of the methods that have become most popular in recent years to keep birds away from terraces and porches are scarecrow owls. They consist of just that, a figure of an owl, which can be placed in different locations, simulating a predator on alert. So the birds will avoid approaching.

Another very common alternative, as well as cheap, is to create a CD belt, all you need is a rope on which these objects will be placed. The shine they produce when light reflects off their rear area helps to scare birds away and prevent them from flying or perching in the area.

A method widely used in cities is to install spikes. However, this can cause accidents and harm the animals, as well as giving rise to an aggressive and unpleasant appearance. Instead, you can opt for gel products that are applied to railings and balconies. When this comes in contact with the bird's feet, it is so unpleasant that it simply flies away at once.

For those who prefer to seek help from technology, the recommendation will be ultrasonic speakers. It is another harmless method of keeping birds away from porches and decks. You simply have to place these devices in different corners of the place, they emit an imperceptible sound for humans.

If none of this is effective, the most effective solution will be to directly block access to the area. This can be done by means of nets or meshes, however, it will depend to a large extent on the characteristics of the space itself to determine whether or not it is a good option. On balconies and terraces it will be easier than in other larger or larger spaces. The disadvantage is that it may not be very aesthetic, but it is possible to resort to meshes that are transparent to minimize their visibility.
