Robert De Niro's family is still shocked by the sudden death of Leandro, the youngest grandson of the American actor. The young man passed away last Sunday at the age of 19, for reasons that are still unknown. Her mother Drena De Niro is clear that it has been too cruel an end to her little one: "You did not deserve to die like this," she wrote in her last Instagram post.
In such a difficult moment, we have seen for the first time a grieving Robert de Niro. The interpreter left his house on the Upper East Side with a serious face, wearing a cap and a mask that covered the mouth area.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the 79-year-old actor was preparing to get into a black SUV that took him to the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, just a few streets up from his apartment.
De Niro was also seen upon his arrival at the funeral home, where he accompanied Leandro's parents, his adoptive daughter Drena De Niro and artist Carlos Rodríguez.
The mother confirmed last Sunday the death of Leandro, only 19 years old. He did it in an emotional post on Instagram: "My beautiful and sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my womb. You have been my joy, my heart and everything that was. always pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you."
Drena promises that she will try to move on with her life: "I don't know how to live without you, but I will try to move on and spread the love and light that you made me feel so much being your mom. You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that only the love could have saved you. I'm so sorry, my baby. Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my dear child."
The causes of death of the 19-year-old have not been disclosed. In a second post, his mother claims that he did not deserve to "die like this," but she can only believe "that God needed a strong and powerful angel in his army."
The actress also wanted to thank the thousands of messages of support that she has received in the last few hours: "I have not yet been able to respond, but we are grateful for all your love and condolences."
