Esther Arroyo remembers her fatal traffic accident with Ana Torroja: "We had the misfortune of crashing together"

Nearly fifteen years ago, a traffic accident changed the story of a model and a singer forever. On October 10, 2008, Esther Arroyo and Ana Torroja were on their way to Santander with three other people, when their vehicle collided head-on with a van. One of the passengers, a friend of those involved, died instantly, while the other four occupants got out of the vehicle as best they could. A tragedy that the model recalled this week.

Arroyo appeared on the set of Lazos de Sangre de La 1 to talk about the historical trajectory of Mecano. There, he was able to expose in detail what happened in the accident, in addition to telling the consequences that he is still experiencing. He also had time to speak with Lecturas magazine, to whom he revealed that he was preparing to move out of Spain with his entire family. His goal is to start a new page to return to the world of work.

"We had the misfortune of crashing together, that we could have done something else together," explained Arroyo on the RTVE program, trying to turn what happened around. The television presenter also recalled how she suffered a broken tibia and she feared she would not walk again, after staying in a wheelchair for years. For her part, Torroja broke two vertebrae and her clavicle, in addition to suffering psychological damage and post-traumatic stress with her friend.

“I don't really like to talk about the accident, but the people who helped us at the beginning said that normally, not many survivors come out of a blow like this. And well, it wasn't our turn," explained Mecano's vocal during an interview she did some time ago on La Mañana de La 1. Despite the harsh setback that resulted in her life, Arroyo managed to have her permanent disability recognized, in addition to receive compensation of more than 300,000 euros.

In her interview with Lecturas, the woman from Cádiz also had words of remembrance for the incident: “It will be there forever because I have the aftermath, I am always with treatments, physiotherapists and others. I have my pains, better days and worse ones. But I'm fine for what it was." Regarding her moving plans, she acknowledged that she was very excited to leave with the whole family, due to the long downtime caused by the accident.

“I really want it. I have been unemployed for a long time as a result of the accident, returning to the profession is not easy, I already have a very family life and there are projects that do not compensate me or I cannot carry out. Physically I cannot be recording from Monday to Friday, I suffer a lot and I am not interested, ”she said. A change that puts an end to one of the most painful stages she has had to go through, both for her and for her friend Ana Torroja.
