Contradictory versions of Ivo's disappearance in the Mar Menor: the family does not believe it was an accident

The disappearance of a 15-year-old boy in the Mar Menor continues to make headlines, news coverage and a multitude of theories. Ivo Petrov vanished early on Epiphany Day, after the canoe in which he was traveling with two young people, ages 22 and 17, sank near Espejo beach, in the Murcia town of Los Alcázares. Despite the police efforts and the multiple raids that have been carried out, Ivo still shows no signs of life.

A fact that generates doubt and distrust in his family. As reported by El Español and later detailed by TardeAR, his loved ones consider that the sinking of the boat is not an accident. Quite the opposite: they point to a kidnapping or even a murder. “We think they have killed him or that he is kidnapped in some house,” Nicol, his sister, told the Civil Guard agents.

“50 gypsies came to our house to kill us. "They broke down my father's car," said the 15-year-old girl, who serves as the family's official spokesperson due to her command of Spanish. According to data provided by Ana Rosa Quintana's magazine, Ivo's mother would have prohibited him from interacting with Francisco Javier Medina, one of the members of the canoe, which sank towards the island of La Perdiguera. He claims not to remember anything after the early morning rescue.

At the moment, only a coat and a flip-flop that belonged to the missing person have been found on Barón Island, a little further from La Perdiguera, while the search continues for the third consecutive day by land, sea and air. Likewise, there is the problem that none of the three knew how to swim, particularly Ivo. At the time of the rescue, the two young people had “severe hypothermia,” but the big problem is that their versions contradicted each other.

David González, father of one of the minors affected by the shipwreck, insists that what happened is a “childish thing” and has accused the El Español journalist in charge of covering the news of information manipulation. He insists that Nicol does not understand Spanish and that he had invented the information supposedly provided to the Civil Guard. Both families would have agreed to denounce journalist Jorge García Badía for his theoretically erroneous publications.

His son's version states that Ivo would have found a boat lying on the sand, with the intention of going around from jetty to jetty. Looking good, they opted to extend their trip to Perdiguera Island, which is deceptively far from shore. While they passed by and smoked a cigarette, Ivo would have gotten up, unbalancing the boat and causing the three of them to fall into the water. After trying to turn him around, they tried to swim back, where they lost sight of him.

Similarly, in And Now Sonsoles Medina has received some criticism from several collaborators, after stating that what they did in the canoe was “kid stuff”, when he was 22 years old. For his part, González has been tense about Sonsoles Ónega's use of the El Español version, which the family has also denied. When speaking with Badía, the father has categorically denied his “objectivity” and insists that the jacket found belonged to his son.
