Apple TV's commitment to science fiction continues with 'Dark Materials'

“A man of science is married to the woman of his dreams. He has a good life until one night he doesn't make it home. When he regains consciousness, his whole life has changed,” explains a physics teacher to a friend. “He seems like he is crazy,” comments the acquaintance regarding the hypothesis. But he is shocked when he hears the physicist's response: “I'm not crazy.”

Dark Materials, produced by Apple TV, has presented its first trailer where the viewer can finally get an idea of what kind of story it wants to tell and what the production values are. And, as is tradition on the content platform, it is a science fiction story that adapts the novel by Blake Crouch with Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby), Jennifer Connelly (Top Gun Maverick), Alice Braga (We are who we are) and Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) in the lead roles.

Blake Crouch himself adapts the text, which in his first images makes it clear what the bet is. There is a kind of box through which you can access all the different lives that you could have had depending on the decisions or circumstances. And, as the scientist played by Edgerton discovers, he has been attacked by one of these dopplegangers: “Another version of me took me out of my true world to send me to his world. “The person who kidnapped me was me.”

And, from what it seems, returning to his wife and son is an ordeal when there are as many realities as grains of sand in the desert and in this labyrinth he can lose his life. At the moment, a first season of nine episodes is announced, which will premiere the first two on Wednesday, May 8 on Apple TV.

With Dark Matter, Apple TV consolidates its science fiction tradition that includes titles such as Invasion, For All Mankind, Foundation, Constellation, Severance or Silo.
