Anabel Alonso on the possibility of seeing a homosexual protagonist in general prime time: “The steps that are taken openly seem to me to be very big”

Anabel Alonso is one of the most versatile women in the acting world in Spain. Over the last decade she has demonstrated her acting range in the Antena 3 series Amar en tiempo revueltos, spending a total of seven years occupying the role of Benigna. However, other productions are the first that come to mind of those who are more veteran, as is the case of Siete Vidas on Telecinco with Diana Freire.

In order to talk at length about her career, the actress from Barakaldo has visited the Catalunya Ràdio program Ja m'entens, presented by David Àvila. This is a podcast that revolves around the LGTBIQ collective, which has generated an interesting question addressed to Alonso. Àvila has questioned the possibility of a general network betting on a homosexual or bisexual protagonist in a prime time series.

“I don't see it very clearly. What is true is that every time, and in many series, especially in our country, there are LGTBI relationships. (...) In Amar es para siempre, for example, Luimelia caused a sensation, now in 4 stars I think there is also a relationship between two women. Like they are already putting these relationships in many fictions,” expressed the actress, who has considered the option of it happening on other platforms.

“I don't know if it would be featured, I think it would be on a platform because it is for an on-demand audience, but the steps that are taken openly seem to me to be very big. I don't know if they are enough, but they are very big,” she added. Likewise, the program has reviewed other highlights of Alonso's life, such as his time on MasterChef Celebrity. In particular, family visits and how they have changed the trend in the public sphere.

“We must break a spear in favor of general television, and in this case TVE, which is the public one. They are making known the different realities, the sexual-emotional and gender diversity. There are many trans contestants, for example, and it is true that television is disseminating and making many realities known. And that these realities are as valid, as felt, as true, as honest and as natural as the rest,” he explained.

Outside of this interview, the words he dedicated to his partner Heidi and the relationship they had after the arrival of their son also covered articles in different media: “It has changed me a lot and for the better. I have learned to relativize a lot and focus on what is important. A child can highlight the differences in a couple, not everything is rosy because you have to agree on many details and be on top of things.”
