The well-known tennis player Pete Sampras has shocked his fans around the world after announcing that his wife, actress, model and singer Bridgette Wilson is fighting ovarian cancer.
As explained by the United States athlete, who won 14 Grand Slams throughout his career and managed to remain number one in the world for 286 weeks, doctors detected his wife's cancer in December 2022.
After a few complicated months of hospital visits, studies, treatment and check-ups, the man who was one of the most important athletes in the world has released a statement on the ATP Tour to share his situation with his followers around the planet.
''As most know, I am a quiet and private person. However, the last year has been exceptionally challenging for my family. And I have decided to share what is happening. Last December, my wife, Bridgette, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Since then, she had a major operation, underwent chemotherapy and continues the indicated therapy," she explained in the text.
"It's hard to see someone you love go through a trial like this. However, seeing the step forward and support so strong from our children, my own and each other is incredible. Seeing how Bridgette continues to be an incredible mother and wife, inspiring," he said in a few paragraphs full of emotion and feeling.
Finally, the former tennis player has expressed that this experience has helped him realize how difficult it is for him to seek external support and has asked the readers of said manifesto to send good energy to the sick actress and her family: ''I just finished humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey. Thank you".
