The OCU warns of the danger of this popular car seat due to the "high risk of injury to the child"

The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has detected a "serious failure" in the anchoring of the Twist base of the Peg Perego Viaggio chair. In the event of a head-on collision, "it detaches from the base and is projected, which poses a high risk of injury to the child," the organization explains in a statement.

This vehicle seat model is marketed for children between 61 and 105 cm tall, that is, for children between 1 and 4 years old, details the OCU. Its current cost: 299 euros.

During frontal crash tests in the laboratory, which simulated a crash at around 64 km/h, more severe than the R129 homologation regulations in which the crash is at 50 km/h, the piece that supports the base of the vehicle broke. the chair on the floor of the car.

Upon impact, the chair "detached itself from the base and went forward and upward." This occurs both when the chair is installed rear-facing and forward-facing, says the organization, which has informed Peg Perego's headquarters in Italy. On the other hand, on its page, the manufacturer assures that the chair can be reclined in both directions of travel.

The company has responded that they will investigate the case and that they have stopped the distribution of this model of chair, although they insist that the chair has passed the approval tests of Standard R129.

While waiting for the failures reported by the organization to be studied, it considers that there is a "high risk" of suffering injuries in the event of an impact, which is why it has recommended that those who had purchased the chair stop using it.

In addition, the OCU has reminded parents that it is "vital for the child's safety that they ride in a chair adapted to their height or weight", as well as rejecting the acquisition of used, second-hand chairs, "unless be that it is known with certainty that it has not suffered an accident and is in good condition.
