The last measure of the DGT: put the names of the drivers on their information panels

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) expects one of the biggest car movements of the year for Easter. This holiday period is one of the most complicated, he assures, as the volume of trips that are made in a short space of time, with similar origins and destinations and made on the same days and hours, increases. Until next April 10, a holiday in several communities, 16 million road trips are planned.

Traffic has called for prudence in driving, given that this same period of 2022 there were 25 fatal accidents in which 27 people lost their lives. For this, it has deployed a whole series of technical means (fixed and mobile speed control radars, helicopters and drones, as well as cameras and camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts) and humans.

There has also been an innovative initiative: addressing drivers by name on the information panels that are placed in some parts of our country, as captured by the Social Drive application, the largest community of drivers in Spain where information about the traffic in real time.

According to the images posted on her Twitter account, messages such as "Carmen, belt, please" or "David, belt, please" are appearing on these panels. It would be a new strategy to capture the attention of the driver and remind him of the rules of the road.

Users have not missed the opportunity to do some humor either. Within a few hours, the social networks were filled with memes, ironizing with other funnier messages. "Manolo, you owe me a Bizum", the official Bizum account in Spain wrote

In addition, the DGT has launched a new awareness campaign focused on alcohol as a risk factor in traffic accidents. Through a traditional children's song and the usual excuses that people who have consumed alcohol give to get behind the wheel, Tráfico recalls the dramatic consequences that this irresponsible attitude can have. The chosen slogan, “Alcohol lies to you. Only 0 has 0 consequences.”

According to data from the DGT, alcohol is present, either as a concurrent factor or as a trigger, in one in three fatal traffic accidents.
