The brand new agreement reached between the Government of Pedro Sánchez - led in this negotiation by the Minister of Labor and Second Vice President of the Executive, Yolanda Díaz - with the unions will entail a 5% increase in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI). The figure will rise to 1,134 euros. In this way, Sánchez has closed the sixth increase in the SMI since he became President of the Government in June 2018 after the motion of censure against Mariano Rajoy.
This increase represents an increase of more than 60% from the 707.7 euros of SMI in 2017. From 2011 to mid-2018, the popular Executives, led by Mariano Rajoy, increased the Average Interprofessional Salary by just under 15%. Since then and until today, the socialist governments - in coalition with Podemos since 2020 and with Sumar since 2023 - have done so more than 54%.
